Contracts Discussed At Montpelier Board of Education Meeting

“Move to accept resignation with regret” was the response of board member Terry Buntain upon motion to accept the resignation of board member John Kaylor effective December, 2012.  Board President Larry Martin wished John the best of luck and noted “it had been a pleasure to serve with him.”

The Kaylors will be moving out of the Montpelier area.

The board appointed Michelle Kannel as a Montpelier Public Library Board trustee upon accepting the resignation of Eric Davis effective January 1, 2013. Mrs. Kannel will complete the term of Mr. Davis to December 31, 2013.

Elected as president pro-tem was Larry Martin for the January 8, 2013 organizational meeting at 4:45 p.m. The regular monthly meeting will immediately follow.

Superintendent Grime noted donations totaling over $39,000 in memory of Jason Saneholtz had been received to date. The golf simulator project was completed at a cost of $34,000. The board approved the creation of the Jason Saneholtz Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Additional donations accepted by the board included:  $2,500 (Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2246 $550 – NHS; $500 – HS English; $1,500 to the district), $1,025 in anonymous donations ($925 to boys basketball and $100 Athletic Dept.), $766.31 (Montpelier Alumni for locomotive repairs), $386 (Montpelier Athletic to Class of 2014 & 2016), $423.32 (Fathers Interested in Restoring Sports Tradition to K-3 Girls’ Basketball), $250 (Williams County Pork Producers to Locomotion), $216 (Hammer Athletics to Athletic Dept.), $100 (Montpelier Chamber to Locomotion and band), and $50 (Sacred Heart Rosary Alter Society to Locomotion).

Supplemental contracts for the 2012-2013 school year were approved for Anthony Coleman, winter weight room coordinator; Benjamin Lupo, Locomotion advisor; Charlene Johnson, archery advisor; Colleen Kelley, entry year teacher; Khrysta Long, entry year teacher; Jessica Oetjens, entry year teacher; Krista Roe, entry year teacher. Lauren Ruple was added to the substitute teacher list for 2012-2013. Graduate hours for 2012-2013 were approved for Timothy Ford, Miranda Oates, and Lance Thorp. Contract for employment addendums were approved for Jason Brandt and Tim Pawlowicz. Elaine Woodward was added to the substitute cafeteria list. Junior High wrestling coach contract was rescinded for Matthew Dye. Approved the Junior High wrestling coach contract for Anthony Mercer.  Thomas Schlosser was approved as a volunteer wrestling coach. Tracy Royer was approved as a student custodial worker.

A memorandum of understanding was approved for Project Jump Start between the Montpelier Exempted Village Schools and Northwest State Community College to allow high school students to take classes at NWSCC to earn high school and college credits.

The board went into executive session to discuss the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion or compensation of an employee or the investigation of charges or complaints against an employee, official, licensee or student. No action was taken upon return to open session.
