The North Central Board of Education convened to a large audience at their March 15 regular session meeting.

Chuck and Brittany White addressed the Board about ongoing concerns pertaining to their daughter’s disabilities. Noted was the fact that their wheelchair bound daughter is inconvenienced by the lack of ramps and other amenities designed to assist those with mobility issues.

The Board also heard from Judy Lineberger, referencing her concerns about being approached on the sale of her home, which is located just to the east of the school on Baubice Street. Ms. Lineberger claimed that a threat of the use of eminent domain was used during the proposal, to which District Superintendent Ken Boyer stated that while there would be interest should she decide to sell her property, there is no intent of invoking eminent domain in order to acquire it.

The Board then retired into executive session. Upon returning to regular session, the Board approved a resolution to approve the establishment of a full-time athletic administration position. Details pertaining to the position are still being worked out, but the position is expected to be filled and operational by the start of the 2016-17 school year.

The Board extended a three-year contract to Rob Taylor as a Cafeteria Supervisor, and named Brady Ruffer as a junior high track assistant, replacing Joe House whose resignation was tendered and accepted by the Board. Also tendering his resignation was Jordan Weber as a track assistant coach.

In other action, the Board agreed to a two-year contract with Mr. Cleans Lawn Care for mowing services. The Board agreed to an NWOET membership for 2016-17, the FFA Field Day in Lexington, KY, on April 20 and 21, and the junior high and high school student handbooks for 2016-17. The Board approved additions to the General Fund and other funds totaling $28,605.48, the first reading of policy and bylaw revisions, and a Memorandum of Understanding with the North Central Education Association referencing trip transportation pay rates. The Board appointed Eric Smeltzer and Mr. Boyer as representatives to the Williams County Tax Incentive Review Council.

Mr. Boyer reported that construction on the new school continues, with the projected opening in the fall still being on schedule. Roofing is being installed; interior work is going forward, and brick is being applied to the exterior. An auction for items remaining in the old school is slated for the first week in June, with demolition scheduled to commence on June 14.
