Our Yearly Perennial Exchange will be Saturday May 14 at 10:00 am. Bring your extra perennials from home and exchange them for those of someone else. The exchange takes place in the library parking lot and the plants tend to go quickly, so be prompt! Please label your plants and provide care instructions. All participants receive a free herb plant, courtesy of Sadowski’s Produce.

The library will host a series of free acrylic painting classes for adults, sponsored by the Swanton Chamber of Commerce through a grant from the Ohio Arts Council. These are beginning level classes, taught by award winning artist Nora Sallows, and will take the student through the step-by-step process of creating a painting. Students will learn to mix and blend colors to create landscape paintings. Classes will meet on Monday evenings, May 9, 16, 23 and June 6 from 6:30-8:00 pm. Class size is limited and registration is required. Call Neil at the Chamber (419-826-1941) to register by Monday, May 2.

Yoga Classes, taught by Aimee Strohbeck, have been very popular at Swanton Public Library since their introduction. Again this month Aimee will offer four different yoga classes, including two newer ones. Students are asked to bring a yoga mat and towel and to wear comfortable, stretchy clothing.

•Intro to Yoga is offered from 10:15 am to 11:45 am on Thursdays, May 5, 12, 19 and 26. Class fee is by donation, with proceeds benefitting the library.

•Beginning Yoga is from 10:15 am to 11:45 am on Mondays, May 2, 9, and 16. There will be no classes on May 23 and 30. These sessions are slightly more advanced than those in Intro to Yoga, providing students with an opportunity to expand their skill level. Class fee is $10 per session with multi-session tickets available.

•Chair Yoga is from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Thursdays, May 5, 12, 19 and 26. This class involves the same poses done in other yoga classes, but modified to make them gentler while sitting or sometimes standing with a chair for balance and support. Class fee is $5. No yoga mat required for this class.

•Mixed Hatha Yoga Level 1 and 2 is an evening class! Offered from 6:00 pm to 7:15 pm on Mondays, May 2, 9 and 16, this class is safe for most beginners and focuses on yoga for stress and anxiety relief, learning to relax and calm the mind, and improving flexibility, balance, and strength. Class cost is $10.

Our series of Cardmaking Classes, led by Anna Geis, continues in May with thank you cards and gift card enclosures and envelopes. The class will be Thursday, May 19 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm and the fee is $5 for 3 cards. Children 8 and older are welcome when accompanied by an adult. Registration is required. Please call 419-826-2760 to register or register online.

Chess will be offered on Wednesday evenings at 6 pm. and Saturdays at 1:00 pm. The chess group, led by Joe Mossa, is growing steadily, so come join them for a challenging game!

Our SPL Knitting Group, led by Kathy Queen, provides instruction, inspiration, and fun with other yarn lovers. Daytime knitters will meet Monday, May 23 at 1:30 pm. Evening knitters will meet on Wednesdays, May 11 and 25 at 6:30 pm. All skill levels are welcome to attend this free class – crocheters are certainly welcome too! Beginners please bring a pair of knitting needles, size 8 to 15.
