The Williams County Genealogical Society welcomed speaker Cheri Mattox to their May 9, 2016 meeting. Cheri is from Angola, Indiana and speaks on many subjects. She explained how genealogists are like detectives and don’t give up on their search. Many years of research go into finding our ancestors but there is a way to make it simpler for future family researchers. Write stories you remember about things your family members did – maybe how a couple got acquainted and married, their trade, grandma in the kitchen or grandpa on the farm and funny things they did – Anything you can remember! Your stories will also give the reader a glimpse of who you are and the times it happened in by the way you write. Write it down to preserve it so it’s not lost forever!
Cheri impressed on us how important it is to keep prints of our pictures and paper copies of our information because in the future the capability and compatibilities of computers and programs may cause the loss of information.
Cheri is holding on to a picture of her grandfather, Earl Oliver Rupert, and great grandfather, Thomas Lewis Oliver, who raised Earl. She gained this picture because someone else didn’t throw it away.
The Williams County Genealogical Society will hold their 33rd Annual Banquet on June 13, 2016 at 6:30pm at the Moose Lodge east of Montpelier, Ohio. Our entertainment will be Collen Rufenacht and John Huffman from the Archbold and Stryker areas. They will be singing and playing songs ranging from country to gospel on their guitars. The menu is baked chicken, swiss steak, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, rolls, salad bar, pie, coffee, tea, pop and lemonade. The cost per ticket is $13.00.
