Williams County Safe Communities Releases County Traffic Fatalities Update For First Quarter 2016

MONTPELIER, OHIO –The Williams County Safe Communities program reports zero fatalities for the first quarter of 2016 during the months of January – March 2016. This compares with the first quarter of 2015 reporting of one fatal traffic crash in Williams County.

According to Ohio Department of Transportation, Ohio has 340 traffic deaths or 3% fewer deaths than in 2015 to date. Last year, 36% of all traffic deaths involved unbuckled drivers and passengers which is the leading cause of traffic deaths in Ohio. About 84% of Ohioans buckle up on the road, which is a lower percentage that many other states in the region.

Seat belts save lives. The National Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign runs from May 23 – June 5, 2016.

As of May 16, 2016, Ohio traffic statistics reports 299 confirmed fatalities for 2016 as compared to 342 fatalities for the same date in 2015 a difference of -32 and an -13% change. There are an additional 32 unconfirmed provisional traffic fatalities to date for 2016.
