The Stryker Library loves its people and the community loved it back Nov. 5 at an open house celebrating 20 years in its current location.

Residents came for food, games, fellowship and listening to vocal charms of Doug Fiely. The 3-hour event attracted several dozen people on a mild, sunny Saturday, a rarity in early November.

Branch Manager Connie Aeschliman said the event was a thank-you to the community for its support. The library has been at 304 S. Defiance St., since 1996.

The event had several games outside for kids to play and Fiely inside entertaining everyone with his tales of his past and some folk tunes. The audience enjoyed his talk and singing with smiles abounding.

Fiely was the high school art teacher for 30 years at Stryker and donated one of his paintings to be raffled off at the open house.

Besides the music and games, there were scores of homemade cookies to feast upon so everyone could go home happy.
