The Swanton Rotary Club is getting ready for its annual auction, coming Feb. 4 and will celebrate “A Community with a Cause.”
The event is an annual fundraiser for the club and will feature singer Chris Shutters. It will run from 6-10 p.m. at the Swanton Sports Center, 610 N. Main St., Swanton. Chris Shutters (28) is a gifted songwriter, guitarist and vocalist whose prodigal talent and relentless passion are immediately recognizable in every performance. His blues-laced rock and roll originals showcase his innate ability to combine unmistakable soul with unbelievable technical prowess.
Chris performs solo, with the Chris Shutters Band (CSB), who released their first CD entitled “A World Apart,” and now released his newest “Laugh and Roll the Moon” with various other collaborators. Live performances are where Chris really shines as he intersperses his 200+ originals with a wide selection of cover songs. He connects with audiences and maintains high-energy for hours on end.
Chris Shutters started off playing the blues at 13, when he also wrote his first song. It wasn’t long before he was recognized as a seriously talented guitarist, becoming a staple in the Toledo music scene before he could even drive to his own gigs.
Chris has opened for such national acts as Bad Company, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Johnny Winter, Ted Nugent, Molly Hatchet, Eddie Money, Eddie “The Chief” Clearwater and Frijid Pink.
In January 2010 Chris won a singer-songwriter competition at Uncommon Ground in Chicago, besting over 200 entrants. CSB won the 2007 National Black Swamp Blues Competition in Toledo, Ohio and went on to competed in an international contest in Memphis, TN. In 2008 CSB won the Regional Battle of the Bands for northwest Ohio in the pop/rock category.
