The Fulton County Sportsmen Club will hold a brand new program called “Introduction to Archery for Youths” on March 13, 20, and 27. Anyone from ages 10-16 is welcome to attend this free course from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.
According to Greg Ruger, the president The Fulton County Sportsmen Club, funds from an Ohio Division of Wildlife grant will cover all the costs of the course. All equipment is provided by the club, so participants need to bring nothing to participate. Club member Todd Bingham will run the archery program, and several adults from the Fulton County Sportsmen Club will also be instructors. Members of the Hoppin’ N’ Trottin’ 4-H Club will also be on hand to assist youngsters.
“We will use Genesis Bows in the course,” Ruger commented. “Many school programs now use the same bows in their archery clubs.” Ruger added that the three-week introductory course will cover safety, proper use of the equipment, and target acquisition. All classes will be held inside the Clubhouse, so weather should not be an issue for the classes. The Clubhouse is located at 7700 County Road 14 just north of the Wauseon Walmart.
“The Introduction to Archery” is just one of many youth events the Sportsmen Club will host this year. Some of the other youth events the club sponsors include the FFA Trap Shoot of schools, free Hunter’s Education classes for youth, and an annual Kid’s Fun Day.
Although “The Introduction to Archery” course is free, registration is required because space is limited. The Sportsmen Club only has room for about 20 participants.
