The Edgerton school district’s year-to-date revenues are up 0.5 percent over the previous year, while expenses are up roughly 6 percent.
Treasurer William Blakely made these remarks in his report to the Board of Education April 10. Overall, Edgerton is tracking roughly $232,250 worse than last year, he said.
“I have started work on the May 5-year forecast update,” Blakely said. “As of now it’s not looking all that great. Looks like I am going to have some downward trends with revenues compared to the October forecast.
“A lot if the trends down have to deal with declining enrollment and the district property and medium income increasing at rates faster than the state average.”
The district is looking at additional expenses in the upcoming years and some that it cannot control, he said.
In a couple of weeks, Blakely will be leaving for the annual OASBO (Ohio Association of School Business Officials) meeting in Columbus. The training will help him earn his CPIM (Center for Public Investment Management) credits as well as insight on upcoming issues for districts throughout the state, he said.
It will be capped off on Friday morning with a discussion on the most current information regarding the governor’s budget bill.
“Last year I was able to gain a lot of knowledge. I am sure this year will be just as good,” Blakely said.
The board approved the following recommendations of Superintendent Andy Morr.
Overnight academic trips:
– Advisor Kalley Schaefer will take selected FFA students to the State FFA Convention May 4-5 in Columbus;
– The FFA Camp June 26-30 in Carrollton;
– Nikki Thiel and volleyball team members to volleyball camp July 11-12 at LaPorte, Indiana;
The board approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the Edgerton Education Association (EEA) and the school district for the purpose of facilitating job sharing for the position of junior class advisor, pending approval by the EEA;
Personnel Recommendations
The board:
– Accepted the resignation of Andrew Gahagan as a teacher and Log of E advisor at the end of the 2016-17 contractual agreement with the district;
– Approved the updated 2016-2017 Edgerton non-certified sub list, pending pre-employment requirements: Rebecca Bailey;
– Approved a one-year contract for Macie Schroeder as a teacher beginning with the 2017-18 school year, pending pre-employment requirements;
– Approved a 3.33-year contract for James Saul as the buildings, grounds and transportation supervisor beginning May 8 through July 31, 2020, pending pre-employment requirements.
HIGH/MIDDLE SCHOOL REPORT
A blood drive March 27 at the high school collected 39 units, Principal Roger L. Cade II reported.
The High School Prom is Saturday, April 29.
Upcoming events include Teacher Appreciation Week, May 1-5.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL REPORT
Forty-one children have signed up kindergarten, Principal Kermit Riehle said. Kindergarten Assessment is April 12-13 in the Elementary Gymnasium, he said.
High 5 Friday has been rolled out, Riehle said. This is a new program to build positive relationships with community members, he said.
Riehle commented on the fourth-grade transportation projects
“Every year Mr. Zumbaugh helps the students develop an 1800 (AD) mode of transportation in conjunction with his Social Studies/Ohio History curriculum,” Riehle said.
