Alberta Bruot, age 95, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018, at CHP – Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice, after a very brief stay.

She had resided for the past 17 years at Hillside Country Living, near Bryan. “Bert” or “Berta” as she was more often known, was born south of Wauseon, Ohio to Frederick and Hulda (Gerken) Glanz on April 2, 1922. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and attended eight years of parochial school.

In 1939 she graduated from Wauseon High School, followed by training at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Toledo. She graduated from their School of Nursing in 1943.

Albert wed Richard Bruot in 1944 and moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked at Garfield Memorial Hospital until the end of World War II. They settled and raised their family near Stryker, Ohio.

While attending First Lutheran Church, she devoted many years of time and energy to Sunday School and Luther League. As a registered nurse, hospitals and private duty afforded opportunities and ultimately her career choice led to the office of David S. Brown, MD. She remained a constant in Dr. Brown’s office in Stryker for 20 years, retiring at the end of 1979.

She always considered the many 3-generational family’s dear friends and had fond memories of all the patients that filled the office.

Genealogy and French history of Stryker was a fascination, as were the many hours spent in backyards and parks photographing and capturing wildflowers and birds on slides. Euchre games with close friends and daily cribbage games with “dad”, as well as Scrabble games with family always brightened her day.

Alberta is survived by her three children: Elizabeth Bruot of Vermilion, Ohio, Mary (Stan) Manus of East Windsor, NJ, and Richard (Dee) Bruot of Johannesburg, MI. Three grandsons; Kyle Bruot and Aaron Manus of PA, and Adam Manus of NJ; and two great-grandchildren, Annaliese and Joseph Manus. She is also survived by her caregiver and friend, Cheryl Tule. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Pauline Roan Oxender of Bryan, OH, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Her husband preceded her in death in 2006, as has her parents, sister, Orpha Robinson of Stryker and brothers, Elmer Glanz of Wauseon and Eldin Glanz of Bradon, FL.

Visitation for Bert will be held from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. on Friday, March 16, 2018, at the First Lutheran Church in Stryker.

The funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Tamara Wood, officiating.

Interment will be in the Shiffler Cemetery, near Bryan.

The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the First Lutheran Church or a random act of kindness be given to someone.

Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.grisierfh.com. Grisier Funeral Home in Stryker has been entrusted with arrangements.
