PRESS RELEASE / THE VILLAGE REPORTER
UPCOMING SEASON … Joe Frank (right), Archbold boys varsity basketball head coach, recently told Archbold Rotarians that the Bluestreak team will be a work in progress for the start of the season due to the playoff run that the football team had, noting that many of the basketball players also played football. The presentation was arranged by Rotarian Bill Rufenacht (left).
PRESS RELEASE – The success of Archbold’s state playoff qualifying football team likely means that the school’s boys basketball team will get off to a little slower start, according to Joe Frank, the boys varsity basketball coach.
However, he added the team will be ready for its first game against Edgerton on December 4 even though they will have had fewer full team practices than Edgerton and just two scrimmages by then.
“But” he said, “this is a competitive group of players. We’ll be a work in progress for a few games, but competitive.“
The coach told Archbold Rotarians that the roster includes 25 players, but no seniors. There are five juniors (three of whom were lettermen last year), nine sophomores and 11 freshmen.
He expects that some of the freshmen will get JV and varsity experience this year.
He added that this year’s Bluestreak squad will likely play a more pressure-oriented defense than in the past.
The league should be very good this year, according to the Archbold coach. Frank, who is starting his 42nd year of coaching, expects Patrick Henry to be the team to beat for the NWOAL title with Liberty Center and Evergreen also among the top teams as all three squads return a lot of experience from last year.
