Even as spring finally takes hold, the Archbold Village Council kept an eye on next winter with a purchase of road salt.

The council authorized the purchase of 500 tons of road salt through the Ohio Department of Transportation’s bid.

In other news:
The council approved the mayor’s appointment of Senior Officer Leo Wixom as interim assistant police chief effective May 10 until further action by the mayor and council. The position was left vacant when Thom Ross was named interim chief.

The council accepted the bid of B&J Concrete and Construction Co. for street improvements and curb reconstruction for East Lugbill Street, Myers Street and West Barre Road.

The village will use $366,841.65 out of the Capital Projects Fund to cover the liability of the project. The village had also been awarded a $200,000 grant for the project.
The council also accepted the bid from PCH Inc., for improvements to Pleasant, Wilson and Beech streets. The city will appropriate $987,680 from the Capital Projects fund.
