METAMORA (October 20, 2025) – Evergreen’s post-season Cinderella story ended on its own turf, as state-ranked Archbold exploded in the second half for five goals in 30 minutes to beat the Vikings 8-0 in a Division V district semifinal.
Archbold moves on to play in a district final against Coldwater at Ottoville High School tonight.
The Vikings’ Ellie Nash turned away a pair of early Archbold attempts by Klaire Kern and Jade Frey, but before the night was over, the Bluestreak duo would have their retribution.
Frey got started on a big night when she headed in Blaney Huffman’s corner with 31:54 left in the first half to give Archbold the only goal they needed.
Evergreen had a golden chance to knot the score at the 18-minute mark. Kyla Risner’s bouncing shot was handled by Vivi Legato, but when the Streak goalie lost her footing along with the ball, it gave the onrushing Vikings a second try.
Addy Gleckler tried to jam it into the net, but her shot went straight into Legato to keep Archbold on top.
With just over 10 minutes left, Huffman again delivered a corner into scoring range, and out of a scrum in front of the net, Adi Kinsman punched it home for a 2-0 lead.
Kern added another off a one-timer after an Evergreen turnover to make it 3-0 by halftime. Frey scored four minutes into the second half, then assisted on a Kern goal to bring the score to 5-0.
The same combo bumped it to 6-0 with 29:50 to go in the game. Irelyn Selgo fed Frey for her third goal of the night, then Mariah Mireles ended the game with 10:53 on the clock when she punched one in from out front.
Evergreen’s season ends after the upstart Vikings knocked off fourth seeded Ottawa Hills to win a sectional title.
