The village of Archbold will receive money from the Permissive Motor Vehicle Tax fund to help pay for a road construction project. The Fulton County Commissioners approved the request Oct.13. The money, $20,140, comes from a county tax on motor vehicle registrations. The project is for improvement to Pleasant, Wilson and West Beech streets. The bid for $987,680 was awarded to PHC, Inc. Governor Do Nguyen spoke to the Stryker Rotary Club at their regular meeting on October 11th. Governor Do Nguyen was in college at Bowling Green when his home country of South Viet Nam fell to North Viet Nam. Following graduation, he was unable to return home to his wife and daughter. Members of the West Unity Village Council convened in regular session on the evening of October 13. Village Administrator, Joshua Fritsch, reported on the ongoing Jackson Street Waterline and Storm Sewer Replacement project. Two senior citizens came to the Montpelier Village Council complaining of the increase in their garbage bill and the village will go to bat for them. Max Trisel and another gentleman spoke during public comment time. Their point was that the new service through ARS of Archbold has increased their monthly cost from $1.40 per month to $11. A representative of a firm that wants to purchase some land south of downtown Stryker to build a Dollar General store has asked the Village Council to rezone it. Bob Gage of GBT Realty of Tennessee, wants the parcel, across from the school track, for a 9,100-square foot Dollar General store on a1.7-acre site. Edon-Northwest School will be seeing a major improvement to its front parking lot. Superintendent John Granger said the district will likely commence work on the project next summer. Edgerton Schools are looking at going into deficit spending as early as 2020 if current financial trends don’t change. The Board of Education approved the fall five-year forecast and the trends point to wiping out reserves by the end of 2019 Further out there are more and more assumptions being made, Bill Blakely said. The Williams County Genealogical Society met Monday, October 10, 2016 in the Harmon Room of the West Annex, Bryan Public Library. A presentation was made to the group by Heritage Monuments from Pioneer, OH. Kris Kerr gave a history of monuments. In the beginning wood-en markers were used; these quickly deteriorated. Sandstone and marble replaced the wood; however, because these are soft stones, they also deteriorated quickly. The favored stone today is granite which only deteriorates one fifteen thousandth of an inch every thousand years.
