The grant match is earmarked for projects at the Miller Park. The village wishes to work with the Edgerton Summer Recreation Association and use the funds to purchase a scoreboard for the Pony League field. Edon Village Council noted the following information during their recent meeting: Fall trash pick-up is Oct. 1. No major incidents at Edon Days. The village is giving the employee handbook an extensive overhaul. Officials estimate it will take 40-45 hours to complete. The council met in special session Aug. 17 to discuss the lone sealed bid for a 1.7-acre parcel across from the school track. John Edwin “Jack” Shaffer, age 89, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 12:47 P.M. on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, in his home after an extended illness. Mr. Shaffer was a lifelong resident of the Bryan and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was employed by the 50 and 50+5 Corporation as a foreman until retirement and then for MetalForge in Stryker where he was also a foreman until retiring again. Wayne L. Willeman, age 84, of Wauseon, passed away on Thursday morning, August 18, 2016 at the Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center. Prior to his retirement he had been a truck driver. Wayne was born in Napoleon, Ohio on September 5, 1931, the son of Cleo Lin and Delia (Bates) Willeman. On June 17, 1950 he married Irene Colon, and she survives. Wayne was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and a lifetime member of the Wauseon American Legion Post. He enjoyed trap shooting, fishing and trapping. Pauline M. Clark, 86, of rural Montpelier passed away Tuesday Morning at Community Hospitals and Wellness Center in Bryan shortly after admittance. Pauline was born on August 9, 1930 in Edon, Ohio to Clarence and Bernetta (Schlachter) Herman. She married John Clark on May 18, 1950 in Angola, Indiana and he preceded her in death on May 28, 2001. A 1948 graduate of Montpelier High School she resided in rural Montpelier for most of her life. Connie D. Grant, 79, of Montpelier passed away Sunday afternoon at Genesis Healthcare in Bryan. She was born on August 10, 1937 in Montpelier. Her parents were Les and Leone B. (Stoy) Gamber. Connie graduated from Montpelier High School in 1955. On August 13, 1955 she married Max D. Grant and he survives. Connie was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Montpelier, where she was a very active member. The Wauseon First Church of God held a community Back to School event on Saturday, August 13th from 10-1pm. The event included activities for children of all ages including inflatables, a dunk tank, crafts, basketball, and Gator rides. Each child who attended received a free backpack filled with school supplies for the upcoming school year. Refreshments including grilled hotdogs were served. Approximately 250 people attended the event as well as 35 volunteers from the church. Everyone agreed based on the smiles and laughter of the children that the event was a huge success.

Adding insult to injury, the media, rather than underscore the tragedy and the needs it has created, has instead opted to use it to score political points. For half a century the Dum Dum’s Drum Man has acted as the official mascot of the Spangler Candy Company. On Saturday, August 20, Spangler’s, along with several hundred community members, gathered to celebrate the 50th birthday of the Drum Man. The event, which also marked the 110th Anniversary of Spangler’s, included a wide variety of events that all ages participated in. The day began with photo opportunities with the “Birthday Boy”, as well as mingling and pictures with over 30 other mascots that came out to the celebration. The move brings to a close a tumultuous year in which relationships had become strained at best.
