A $4,900 bill that was sent to a Holiday City resident was the subject of discussion at the Thursday, October 17 council meeting. Ron Keil, Sr., a founding father of Holiday City and a 12-year past council member was present with attorney John Shaffer, who identified himself as both a “friend” and legal representative for Mr. Keil. Four County Career Center’s Williams County Career Based Intervention (CBI) students recently participated in a service learning project helping prepare the Bryan Recreation Park for winter by mulching trees and bushes. Ruth Mary Lumbrezer, 90, of Co. Rd. 22, Fayette, died Tuesday afternoon, October 16, 2012, at the Swanton Health Care nursing home in Swanton, OH. She was born November 12, 1921, in Toledo, OH, the daughter of the late Timothy and Hazel (Kunkel) Hartigan. She married Bernard J. “Dud” Lumbrezer on April 25, 1953, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Toledo, and he survives. Ruth lived her early life in the Toledo and Assumption areas, and settled in Fayette in 1962. Mary I. Baker, 97, of rural Waldron, MI, died Tuesday morning, October 16, 2012, at her home. She was born on December 15, 1914, in Fulton County, OH, to the late Fred and Freida (Double) Schang. She married Wilford Baker on March 8, 1934, in Angola, IN, and he preceded her in death in 1993. Mary lived her early life in the Fayette area, and attended Zone School. This year there were twenty five 8th graders that competed in the Rural Soil Judging contest along with eighteen high school members. Six high school members participated in the Urban Soil Judging contest. Brant and Amy Gorsuch, owners of The Corks Winery, spoke to the Stryker Rotary Club at their Tuesday evening meeting. Amy told the club that they are just getting started in business and are located five miles east of Fayette on State Route 20. They currently have 12 wines for sale that compose a mixture of both sweet and dry varieties. The winery is open three days each week, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The CBS Study Club held their monthly meeting at Hillside Country Living on October 3rd with thirteen members present. Halloween centerpieces and little pumpkins decorated the tables. Hostess, Pauline Brillhart, served delicious orange jello and her special spice cake. Devotions were given by Lucy Pitts.
