Barbara A. Apt, 85, of Montpelier passed away early Thursday morning at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born on August 2, 1932 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio to Elmer and Ellen (Seckel) Ireland.

Barb graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in Adrian, Michigan in 1950. On August 7, 1954 she married Richard L. Apt in Montpelier and he survives.

Barb moved to Montpelier when her parents opened the Cottage Inn, she worked there as a server. She also worked at Strydel in Stryker, Beam Stream in Montpelier as a fabricator, and retired from the Montpelier Hospital where she worked in the dietary department.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Richard; daughter Angela (Duane) Moor of Montpelier; son Alan (Becky) Apt of Montpelier; five grandchildren, Douglas (Michelle) Moor, Laurie (Brian) Caudill, Aaron Apt, Aundrea (Tom) Gamboe, and Thane (Kasey) Apt; eleven great grandchildren, Alexandra, Abbigail and Ashley Caudill, Gwendolyn and Ethan Moor, Benjamin, Alaina and Ramsey Gamboe, and Brentley, Tinley and Addaley Apt.


Barb was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Elmer Ireland, Jr. and Calvin Ireland, and one sister Rosemary Godfrey.

Visitation for Barb will be on Sunday, December 17th from 12-6 pm at the Thompson-Geesey Funeral Home on Empire Street in Montpelier and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Services will be Monday at 11 am at the First United Methodist Church in Montpelier with Pastor Frank Kampel to officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to CHP- Hospice or First United Methodist Church. Condolences can be left at www.thethompsonfuneralhome.com.
