FAYETTE — Barbara Ann Phillips, age 87, of rural Fayette, died peacefully at her home on Friday, April 3, 2026. She was born Feb. 6, 1939, in Canton, Ohio, the first of two children from the union of the late Kenneth and Esta (Frey) Beaverson. She was a 1957 graduate of Gorham-Fayette High School.
Barbara married Waldron native Charles Curtis “Sonny” Phillips on Oct. 11, 1958, in Waldron. Together, they worked hard to raise a family of four children as well as operate a successful plumbing and heating business.
They were blessed with more than 59 years of companionship before his passing eight years ago on April 1, 2018.
Barbara was a member of the Reformed Mennonite Church. She helped in the day-to-day bookkeeping needs of her and Sonny’s business, C. Phillips Plumbing and Heating, since its inception in 1968.
She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, and canning her harvest each year. Reserved and stoic in her nature, Barbara was a gentle and kind spirit who deeply loved her family, to whom she instilled strong core values. She was a good steward of the many blessings she was given.
Surviving is a daughter, Kathy (Richard) Miller of Fayette; three sons, Steve (Barbara) Phillips, Curtis (Kriss) Phillips, and Jason (Tarra) Phillips all of Fayette; eight beloved grandchildren, Ashley, David, MaKayla, Kody (Lori), Harley (Jonah), Sonny, Shelby, and Tori.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; parents, Kenneth and Esta Beaverson; her brother, Robert Beaverson; and a son in infancy.
The family received friends for visitation at the Marry Funeral Home in Fayette on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, from 2-7 p.m. A funeral service was held at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 8, at 11 a.m. James Basinger officiated, and burial followed in Lauber Hill Cemetery near Archbold.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Barbara can be made to benefit the Lauber Hill Cemetery Fund or Elara Caring Hospice.
