Benjamin Romero (1936 – 2024)

Benjamin C. Romero, age 88 years, of Pettisville, passed away Thursday evening, August 1, 2024 at Rupp Rehab at Fairlawn Haven in Archbold.

He was born March 10, 1936 the son of Elegio Cheverez and Alejandrina “Aleja” Romero in Puerto Rico.

He was a hard worker; at a young age he worked in the sugar cane fields to help his family. At 16 he moved to the U.S. to work and send money back to his family.

Benjamin worked at several factories working 40 hours or sometimes more each week before retiring at 86 years old. While working at Gendron Wheel Company in Archbold, he met Ida Mae King and they got married on April 5, 1963, and she survives.

Benjamin attended the Tedrow Mennonite Church. He liked being outside and would find something to do until it was dark. He also liked the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland teams and going to Pettisville Boys Basketball games.

He is survived by his wife, Ida; children, Betty, Lynda, Melissa (Corey) Cogan and Amanda; grandchildren, Chase, Kyra, Justin and Dani; step-grandson, Tommy Lee; and siblings, Ava, Carmelo, Virgen and Elegio Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Adrian, Ramon and Enrique.

Private family services will be held at Short Funeral Home in Archbold with Pastor Doug King officiating. Interment will follow in the Pettisville Cemetery.
