Bethany Watkins (1986 – 2024)

Bethany Ann Watkins, 38, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 18, 2024 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

She was born on January 10, 1986 in Bryan, Ohio to David A. and Sharon Y. (Houk) Deetz.

Bethany graduated from Montpelier High School in 2004 and went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree in music therapy with a minor in psychology from the University of Dayton in 2008. On September 27, 2014 she married Lamont A. Watkins in Montpelier and he survives.

Bethany most recently worked in the healthcare industry with a special interest in working with younger children and the elderly. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Toledo, Ohio.


Bethany enjoyed music, trivia and other games, as well as “Dad Jokes”. She was a former and very proud member of the UD Marching Band. Go Flyers!

She also was a fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Bengals. Bethany was a dear friend to many and she remained in close contact with Kristin, Nikki, Danni and Megan.

Bethany is survived by her husband, Lamont A. Watkins; parents, David and Sharon Deetz of Montpelier; two sisters, Nicole (Kevin) Smith of Columbus, Ohio and Brittany (Steve) Harris of Middletown, Ohio; paternal grandmother Barbara Deetz of Montpelier; nieces and nephews, Melanie, Cayden, Maddy, Ellie, Brianna, Demi and JaNylah; and her beloved dog, Darla.


She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, William Deetz and maternal grandparents, Paul and Virginia Houk.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 from 3-8 pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church at 209 Broad Street in Montpelier. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 10:00 am at the church with Pastor Kevin Maxey to officiate. Interment to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier, Ohio.

Memorials may be given to Children’s Lantern or Northwest Ohio Alzheimer’s Association. Condolences can be left online for the family at www.thethompsonfuneralhome.com.
