The Black Swamp Arts Council recently recognized the recipients of their Summer Arts Scholarships for 2013. On June 3, at a reception at the Archbold Community Library, 25 students from 13 different schools were awarded a total of $4,600 in scholarship money to attend summer workshops and camps related to the arts.

Since 2002, students in grades 7 – 11 from area rural NW Ohio counties have attended camps throughout the U.S. through the help of scholarships from BSAC. This year’s recipients will attend camps and programs at sites including Interlochen Ballet Summer Camp, Ohio Northern University Music Camp, 6 different BGSU Summer Music Institutes (which includes Brass Camp, Flute Camp, Violin Camp, Vocal Arts Camp, Recording Studio Camp and Double Reed Camp), New York City Dance Alliance Summer Dance Intensive, Wooster College Music Camp, Harp Week in Toledo, Lambec Music Camp in Pennsylvania, Lisa Kelly Summer Master Class in Georgia, and Private voice, piano and art lessons. “This year we had a record number of scholarship applicants and all were excellent candidates. As a board we voted to increase the amount we historically have awarded by over $1000 to allow more students the opportunity to attend these wonderful camps and classes. I look forward to hearing how they grow from their camp experiences”. The winner from West Unity was Lauren Garrett.
