 (Lifelong Resident Of Montpelier)

Carolyn Jean (Shannon) Strobel, 88, a lifelong resident of Montpelier passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at her home. She was born on February 18, 1936 in Montpelier to Carl and Marion Klein Shannon.

Carolyn graduated from Montpelier High School in 1954. On October 8, 1955 she married Frederic William Strobel II, and he preceded her in death in 2018.

While in school she took piano lessons. She was a nurse’s aide at the Williams County General Hospital, LPN Advanced Studies under Mrs. Bruce Lyons, RN, Director of Nurses, WCGH.  During high school she was a homecoming attendant, class secretary and Senior Class Queen.

After high school she became a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Montpelier, was a dental assistant to Dr. Roger S. Ely, DDS, bowled on the Thursday Night Ladies Bowling League at Montpelier Lanes and a member of Mid-Century Study Club.

On February 24, 1957 her son, Jeffery Lyn Strobel was born. She took her Challenged LPN Nursing Exam in Columbus on October 7, 1957; she was awarded her LPN License on December 14, 1957. Carolyn had her daughter Laurie Ann Strobel on April 9, 1959.

In the mid 1960’s she was the Montpelier PTA Secretary, Cub Scout Den Mother, Brownie Leader, Hi-Steppers Marching and Drum Corp Leader, St. John’s Sunday School Nursery Class Teacher, Bible Study Teacher and Music Leader.

She was also the church organist for Sunday Services, Junior Senior Choirs, Advent Christmas Cantatas, Lent Easter Service and 10:30am services, weddings and funerals, Community Services and the Women’s Prayer Circle.

Carolyn was the 3-11pm Charge nurse at Evergreen Manor in the 1970’s, on March 9, 1975 she was awarded a Pharmacology License from Northwest State Community College, and in 1976 she was the first shift charge nurse at Bryan Nursing Care Center, before retiring in 1989. On September 27, 1989 she earned the Laubach Literacy Tutor Certificate.

Her recent activities included giving piano lessons to great granddaughters and nieces, attending sporting and music events, attending Montpelier High School Quiz Bowl contests and Pride of Montpelier Pageants.

But most of all, watching her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren grow up to be loving, caring, responsible human beings of whom she was so very, very proud.
