Column: TWO MINUTE DRILL – Is This A Mistake?

On December 20th, millions watched as pageantry came to a culmination of celebration! It was the crowning of Miss Universe 2015!

It began locally progressing to the crowning of Miss Ohio, then Miss USA…and now Miss Universe! For some people this is the equivalence to a World Series, a World Cup, or the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, on this special night a huge mistake was made. The wrong winner was announced!

After an eternal minute of applause, high emotions, and celebration there was an awkward interruption made by the evening’s emcee. It’s one of those “I can’t believe this just happened” moments.

Emcee Steve Harvey apologetically announced that he made a mistake. The 1st runner-up was crowned, not the actual Miss Universe.

He somehow read the wrong name printed on the card! You can only think about Miss Colombia and the sudden news that this was all a mistake.

As the crown is removed from her head, the roller coaster of emotions kicks in 100mph as she is no longer on top of the universe!

Embarrassment, anger, confusion – all crush against the joy she had just tasted. Meanwhile the cameras are still rolling as millions are viewing on-line, live on TV, and in person. Can you imagine how she felt? Have you ever been in a similar situation?

It was unfortunate for everyone, especially Miss Colombia. And for Steve Harvey, unfortunately the mistakes didn’t end there. He left the stage, and later posted an apology on Twitter.

Unfortunately, he misspelled both countries…another mistake. “I want to apologize emphatically to Miss Philippians and Miss Columbia,” he wrote.

“This was a terribly honest human mistake, and I am so regretful.” He later deleted the message, but not before it was retweeted more than 30,000 times.

Just over 2,000 years ago the God of the Universe sent His one and only Son, Jesus Christ into this world! It was a crowning moment as the only one, the name above all names, was proclaimed as our Savior!

The prophets, the Shepherds, the Wise Men, and many others who stepped into the life of Jesus all proclaimed and posted the true identity of our Champion Savior. There were no mistakes made.

The Shepherds did not go the wrong address. The Wise Men did not go back to the house of Jesus to retrieve His Kingly gifts given. No mistakes – this is the Savior of the World!

The only mistake we could make is to not acknowledge and proclaim him as the Savior of the world. Do you know Him? Today is a great day to get to know Him!
