Behind the heroic efforts of the Wauseon Fire Department lies a story of unwavering commitment and selfless service. From April 30th, 2022, to April 30th, 2023, the department responded to 1,310 EMS calls and 58 fire-related calls.

During the following year, from May 1st, 2023, to May 1st, 2024, they attended to 1,496 EMS calls and 46 fire-related calls.

These numbers, although not drastically different from year to year, reflect an increase in the amount of the incidents they handle, showcasing the dedication and professionalism of the department’s personnel.

One of the foremost challenges facing the department is the recruitment of new fire and EMS personnel. Despite a decline in incoming employment candidates, the department has taken proactive measures to entice and retain new recruits.

By offering flexible scheduling, career growth opportunities, state-of-the-art equipment, health and wellness programs, and training opportunities, they remain committed to improving the work environment for the health, safety, and happiness of their employees.

The Wauseon Fire Department places great emphasis on community involvement and support. They endeavor to extend their services to every member of the community, regardless of age or ability.

From installing fire alarms for people with hearing disabilities to promoting CPR and community risk reduction activities, the department’s commitment to safety and education is truly commendable.

Moreover, their efforts extend beyond responding to emergencies. The team diligently applies for grant funding opportunities to enhance their resources, secured $328,285.71 in grant funding in 2023, and continues to strive for excellence in providing the best possible services to the community.

Comprising approximately 30 full-time, part-time, and volunteer members, the Wauseon Fire Department prides itself on being skilled in various specializations, including fire, EMS, technical rope rescue, and as Special Response Team members.

The department’s dedication to constant improvement and professional standards significantly contributes to the safety and well-being of the community they serve.

As we honor the remarkable men and women of the Wauseon Fire Department, we recognize their immeasurable contributions. Their unwavering commitment to serving and protecting the community stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration for all.

In every call they answer and every life they touch, they embody the true spirit of selflessness and valor, making our community safer and our lives better. We owe them our deepest gratitude and respect for their tireless efforts and sacrifices.
