D3 GIRLS BASKETBALL SECTIONAL FINAL: Fast Start By Delta Carries Lady Panthers Past Montpelier 49-35

DELTA, OHIO-The Lady Panthers harassed Montpelier into nine first quarter turnovers to grab a 15-5 lead after one quarter on their way to a 49-35 win.

Leading in the opening minutes 4-2, Delta generated a series of Montpelier turnovers to go on a 11-0 run with five points from Brooklyn Green and four points from Brooklyn Wymer during the spurt.


Ali Repp was able to stop the bleeding for Montpelier by knocking down a triple to end the first quarter.

Braelyn Wymer started the second quarter for Delta with a trey, but Ariel Page scored twice down low for Montpelier and Jessi Bumb buried a three-pointer to make the score 22-12.

Montpelier was able to add a couple more field goals before halftime to get within single digits at 25-16.


Montpelier continued to try and claw their way back into the game with Chelsea McCord going 2/2 at the free throw line and Trinity Richmire hit a three ball to cut the Delta lead down to 27-21.

Delta answered with a 10-3 scoring run as Braelyn Wymer would drain consecutive triples to push the advantage back to double digits at 37-26 heading to the final quarter.

Page had a basket and Richmire scored twice for the Locos in the final quarter, but Brooklyn Wymer was 3/4 at the line and Green capped off a long possession by Delta with a layup to make it 44-32 Delta.

The Panthers were 15/44 (34%) shooting the ball with four three pointers and Montpelier finished 14/46 (32%) with five triples.


The turnovers improved for Montpelier the rest of the night as they finished with 17 in the game after committing nine in the opening quarter.

Delta was 7/11 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter to end the night 15/22 while Montpelier was just 2/4 on the night.

Green paced the Panthers on the night with 16 points, Brooklyn Wymer had 12, and Braelyn Wymer added 11.

Montpelier was led in scoring by nine points from Bumb and Page chipped in with eight.

Delta will face the second seeded Eastwood Lady Eagles on Thursday night in the second Division III district semifinal of the night at Anthony Wayne High School.

The Lady Locos, who went 12-0 in the BBC, finish the 2020-2021 campaign at 18-4.
