Daniel (Szczublewski) Smead (1943 – 2017)

Daniel R. (Szczublewski) Smead, 74 years, of Wauseon passed away Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance.

Daniel was born July 14, 1943 in Toledo, Ohio, the son of the late Daniel and Dorothy (Smead) Szczublewski. Daniel was a 1962 graduate of Macomber High School in Toledo. He then served in the Reserves for the United States Marine Corps. Daniel was very proud to be a Reserve Marine his whole life, “Semper Fi.” Daniel married Joyce M. Jarvis on October 31, 1962 in Toledo, Ohio. He worked for Conrail as a Train Conductor for 30 years, until he was unable to work due to disabilities in 1999. Daniel collected trains, enjoyed reading military and history books, and watching the Detroit Red Wings in his free time. He also enjoyed spending time with family, especially playing pranks and teasing his children and grandchildren.

Surviving is his wife, Joyce of Wauseon, Ohio; three children, Ginger (Bart) Sprague of Bryan, Ohio, Cheryl (Steve) Myers of Wauseon, Ohio, and Chad (Amy) Szczublewski of LaGrange, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Jason (Shannon) Sprague, Hollie (Scott) McElfresh, Christopher Blake, Chad Szczublewski, Jr., and Kaylin Szczublewski; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Marie (David) Uberroth of Toledo, Ohio, and Robert(Beth) Szczublewski of Toledo, Ohio

To honor Daniel’s wishes there will be no visitation or services. Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, Bryan.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions be made to Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center, 6817 State Route 66 N, Defiance, Ohio 43512
