Darla Sue Spiess, age 75, of Swanton, passed away under hospice care at her home Monday night, May 8, 2023 with her loving husband and family by her side.
She was born on April 20, 1948 in Wauseon to the late George “Raymie” Dick and Margaret (Lulfs) Dick. Darla was a graduate of Delta High School.
On December 7, 1976, she married Roger Spiess and together shared 46 years together.
Darla worked at various jobs throughout her life, but being a loving homemaker, wife, mom and grandma was her life.
She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. Darla also was well known for breeding and showing championship dogs, pleasure horses; along with race horses.
Darla and Roger loved spending time at the racetracks. She is survived by her husband, Roger D. Spiess; children, Rob (Lora) Staples, Kelly Laughlin, Eric (Scott) Spiess and Shannon (Ray) Spiess-Kelly; sisters, Julie (Jeff) Mayuiers and Jennifer (Kylle) Hogrefe; grandchildren, Breyana Staples, Sean Kelly, RJ Kelly and Jake Laughlin; sister-in-law, Sandie Dick.
Along with her parents, Darla was preceded in death by her brother, Robert A. Dick in 2014. There will be no public services.
A private graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery in Delta. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 St. Hwy. 109 in Delta.
