David D. Rex, 84, of Archbold, Ohio, passed away Monday, March 16, 2026, at Mercy Hospital Perrysburg. He was born August 7, 1941, in Hicksville, Ohio, to R.D. and Lois (Bidlack) Rex. David was a 1959 graduate of Stryker High School and received a B.S. in Ed. from Adrian College, M.Ed. and Ed.S. from Indiana University.
On May 30, 1964, he married Sharon Schantz. David was an educator at Archbold Area Schools for 34 years where he served as a teacher, coach, athletic director and principal. Upon retirement he spent another six years as principal at Perrysburg Schools. He was a member of the Archbold United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sharon; four children, Brian (Anne) Rex of Perrysburg, Ohio, Stuart (Kristi) Rex of Gridley, Ill., Chad (Lynn) Rex of Archbold, Ohio, and Juli (Brian) Foy of Downers Grove, Ill.; a brother, Dan L. Rex of Sarasota, Fla. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren: Kathryn Rex, Hannah Rex, Cade Rex, Isaac Rex, Sarah Rex, Dawson Rex, Nolan Rex, Calvin Rex, Naomi Rex, Myles Foy, Elliot Foy, Mia Foy and Anna Foy. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held on Monday, March 23, at 2 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Archbold with Pastor Calvin Rychener officiating. Interment will follow at Pettisville Cemetery. Friends may call before the services from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to The Dave Rex and Mike Sullivan Education Scholarship Fund.
