Dennis Walsh (1950 – 2024)

Dennis Michael Walsh, age 74, of Swanton, Ohio, was born December 2, 1950, in Toledo, Ohio to Richard and Mary (Wimmer) Walsh.

He entered into eternal life, Thursday morning, December 19, 2024, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.

After high school, Dennis served in the Peace Corps and then spent 26 years as a director of group homes, making a profound impact on the lives of those he served.


Additionally, he worked as a care worker for Sunshine Children’s Home, where his compassion and dedication shone brightly.

His commitment to caring for others extended beyond his professional life; he also shared his time and knowledge as a guide for the Toledo Metroparks, volunteering over 1,000 hours and instilling a love of nature in many.

Dennis was a 1969 graduate of Swanton High School. He married Janet Marie Dominique on January 17, 1998. She preceded him in death on April 15, 2007.


A devout Christian, he spent much time with his Bible every day reading and praying for his family and friends and getting together with his prayer group. In addition, he also created extensive written Bible studies. Dennis was a member of St. Richard Catholic Parish.

His huge outgoing personality and great sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He treasured the many friendships he formed during his life, and his legacy will live on through the many lives he touched. To know Dennis was to love Dennis.

Dennis is survived by his sons, Justin and Daniel Walsh; stepson, Charlie Rittinghouse; his siblings, James (Maryann) Walsh, Cathy Baker, Richard (Mat Lehr) Walsh, Molly (Hal) Brown, and Peggy Walsh; his uncle and aunt Raymond and Nancy Wimmer and many brothers and sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his beloved wife, Janet, Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Mark Baker.


Visitation will be held Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton, where a Vigil service will be held at 6:00 pm. Visitation will continue Friday, January 3rd from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at St. Richard Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 am, with Fr. Eric Culler presiding. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Delta.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Toledo Metroparks or St. Richard Church.
