WAUSEON – Boy’s golf teams across Northwest Ohio started postseason play yesterday as the Division II and Division III sectionals took place.
In the Division III tournament at Ironwood Golf Course in Wauseon, the Archbold Bluestreaks shot a 327 to take home the sectional title led by a 73 from tournament medalist Cahle Roth.
Luke Rosebrook was next for Archbold as he finished second overall with a 78 while Cade Miller fired an 87 and River Ryan carded an 89 to round out the Archbold score.
The Montpelier Locos qualified for their third straight trip to districts shooting a 344 to place second led by Aidan Higbie’s 80 which tied him for fourth overall.
Jaxon Richmond was right behind Higbie with an 81 to tie for sixth followed by Trent Thorp (90, T-18th) and Drake Sommer (93, T-25th).
Fairview took the final team spot (351) edging out North Central by just one stroke as the Eagles finished with a 352.
Zack Hayes paced the Eagles by firing an 80 to tie for fourth and grab one of the three individual qualifier spots. North Central’s score was completed by Ben Petit with an 87 (T-11th), Colton Hicks posted a 90 (T-18th), and Mason Sanford had a 95 (T-31st).
Edgerton put together a 360 to place fifth fronted by Esten Kennerk’s 81 to earn a tie for the sixth spot and qualify for districts next week. The Bulldogs remaining scores came from Kaden Kennerk (86, 10th), Nathan Swank (91, T-22nd), and Landon Perry (102, T-40th).
Fayette’s Owen Lemley secured the third qualifying position by firing a 79 which placed him third overall and first among the golfers not on a qualifying team.
Pettisville was seventh (380) topped by an 89 (T-15th) from Blayn Meck, Delta finished 10th (418) led by Adam Mattin with a 94 (T-29th), Stryker placed 11th (428) paced by Gavin LaBo’s 93 (T-25th), and the Hilltop Cadets were 12th (449) as Elijah Kuszmaul shot a 93 (T-25th).
Heatherdowns Country Club in Toledo was the site for Division II where the NWOAL took the top two spots with Swanton taking first with a 353 and Wauseon shot a 364 to finish second.
Swanton once again displayed the balanced scoring that has been their strength all year led by Garrett Swank with an 80 (2nd), Mazin Rukieh shot an 87 (T-7th), Sam Betz fired a 91 (T-14th), and Lucas Bloom tallied a 95 (T-21st).
Wauseon’s Andy Scherer was medalist with a 76 and Jackson Glecker tied for fourth with an 85 to help the Indians to a runner-up finish. The Indians were rounded out by Mykale Schneider (99, T-28th) and Zach Puehler (104, T-37th).
Evergreen shot a 480 to finish 12th topped by Trayte Dixon who fired a 116.
The Bryan Golden Bears traveled to Moose Landing CC in Ottawa for their Division II sectional and the Golden Bears brought home a sectional title with a 324.
Sophomore Noah Huard carded a 77 (2nd) to lead Bryan followed by Drew Dauber (78, T-3rd), Nathan Hess (80, 7th), and Carter Brown (89, T-21st).
District tournaments are scheduled for Thursday, October 7th with Division III being played at Stone Ridge in Bowling Green while Division II will head to Catawba Island Golf Course in Port Clinton.
