Donald Lee Beaverson, 78, lifelong resident of Fayette, died at his home early Wednesday morning, September 19, 2018, following a battle with cancer. Born February 3, 1940, in Fayette, he was the younger of two sons of the late Willard and Irene (Schroeder) Beaverson.
Don graduated from Gorham Fayette High School with the Class of 1958, and immediately after enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving in the Reserves until his honorable discharge in 1965. He returned to Fayette to farm livestock and crops for much of his working career, in addition to being employed at the former Fayette Tubular Products and La Choy in Archbold.
He also worked part-time as an independent contractor and served over 20 years as a security officer at Sauder Village in Archbold. He was a proud member of the American Legion and the Moose Lodge in Montpelier.
In his younger years, Don enjoyed running, and his talent earned him the opportunity to compete at the state level in track and field during his senior year. An outdoorsman at heart, Don loved the sports of fishing, hunting and trapping, and he was happy to share his appreciation of nature with his children. He enjoyed traveling and was blessed to have visited all but three states in America.
Don married the former Dana Sue Adams on August 29, 2013, and she survives. Also surviving are his five children, Jill (John) Nichols of Stryker, OH, Julie (Mark) Hausch of West Unity, Kristy (Ken) Clouse of Fayette, Joel (Amy) Beaverson of Toledo, and David Beaverson (and Kim Booth) of Rossford, OH; his brother, Gene (Barb) Beaverson of Fayette; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and the mother of his children, Joyce Sauber of Fayette.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Friday, September 21, 2018, from 2-8 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home in Fayette. A funeral service for Don will be held on Saturday, September 22, at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ned Bernstein officiating. Private burial will follow in the Pleasant View Union Cemetery in Fayette, with military honors provided by the Fulton County Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions in honor of Don can be given to the Fayette American Legion John Dale Post 143.
