Donald Pursel, Sr. (1941 – 2024)

Donald Lee Pursel, Sr., age 82, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024, at his residence.

He served in the United States Army for eight years during the Vietnam Era including time as a Drill Sergeant.

After he was discharged, Donald worked for as a tool and die maker at Aro Corporation for 15 years and in the warehouse at Johnson Supply for another 15 years.


He was a member of the Bryan VFW Post 2489 where he served as Commander and Quarter Master and was a life member of the Bryan AmVets Post. Donald enjoyed woodworking in his spare time.

Donald was born on August 8, 1941, in Pulaski, Ohio, the son of Roscoe J.  and Virginia (DeGroff) Pursel. He was a Stryker High School graduate. He married Elizabeth Baker in 1965, in Stryker and she survives.

Also surviving are his children, Donald L. Pursel, Jr., of West Unity, Angela (Stacy) Bellmann, of Bryan and Linda Irvin, of Bobs Creek, Kentucky, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren with another on the way, and three sisters; Janet Hammon, of Bryan, Janie (Jerry) Schmucker, of West Unity and Pamela Pursel, of Bryan.


He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Edward Pursel, and three sisters, an infant- Paulette Pursel, Jean Miller and Sandra Werder.

Visitation for Donald Lee Pursel, Sr., will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Nick Woodall officiating. Burial will follow at Evansport Cemetery, Evansport Ohio with graveside military rites presented by the combined Bryan American Legion/VFW Honor Detail and US Army Honor Guard.
