Doral Rutledge (1925-2020)

Doral Jean Rutledge, 94, of Pioneer, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2020 at Hillside Country Living in Bryan. She was born on October 30, 1925 in Stryker to Ira L. and Ruth L. (Allison) Haughn. Jean graduated from Stryker High School in 1944. On January 25, 1948 she married AJ Rutledge in Bryan and he survives.

Jean worked at Evergreen Manor Nursing Home in Montpelier for sixteen years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of Pioneer United Methodist Church and the Pioneer VFW Auxiliary.

Jean is survived by her husband, AJ Rutledge; four sons, Chester A. Rutledge of Montpelier, Alvin (Suzanne) Rutledge of Pioneer, Mitchell L. Rutledge of Stryker, and David J. Rutledge of Pioneer; two daughters, Catherine A. Rutledge of Pioneer and Christina Crook of Reading, MI; three grandchildren, Megan, Logan and Sierra Crook; two step grandchildren, Jeremy and Josh Miller; and four great step-grandchildren, Jeremy Jr., Andrew, Alexia and Abigale.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Gaylord Haughn.

Jean’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Midge Aumend and Nick Oglesbee for their care and assistance during Jean’s time of need.


Visitation for Jean will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Thompson Funeral Home in Pioneer. A funeral service will take place at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Christian Taylor to officiate. Interment will follow at Floral Grove Cemetery in Pioneer.
