Doris M. Short, age 87 years, of Archbold passed away June 29, 2022, after a short stay at Fairlawn Haven, Archbold.

She was born February 7, 1935 in the home of her parents, Solomon and Clara Beck.

Doris accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age and faithfully and joyfully served him all her life.

On March 11, 1956 she married Roger Short, they spent their first two years of marriage in 1W service in Fremont, Ohio. They enjoyed life together for over 66 years.

They were blessed with three children, Gloria Beck, Rod (Brenda) Short, and Gary (Joyce) Short.

Doris was a homemaker and mother while enjoying their life on the farm. She loved to cook and bake for her family, her friends and their church family. The kitchen was her favorite part of their home.

Up until the last few years Doris was an active member of Central Mennonite Church, Archbold. Growing up the children knew if the church was open, they were expected to attend.

In Doris’ early years she enjoyed teaching Sunday School, helping with Summer Bible School, and the WMSC (Women’s Mennonite Sewing Auxiliary). She also volunteered at Care and Share.

Doris enjoyed playing dominos, Yahtzee, knitting hats for newborns at FCHC, and knotting comforters. She also enjoyed the annual family trip to Round Lake and her lengthy phone calls with her sisters and friends.

Her grandchildren were very important to Doris, she spent countless hours playing with them, wagon rides down the lane, singing songs and swinging on the porch swing.

Doris is survived by her husband, Roger; 3 children; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Richard (Twila) Beck.

Doris was preceded by her parents; a granddaughter, Clarissa Short; and five siblings, Beulah (Jesse) Armstrong, Ilva (David) Bontrager, Edwin (Valetta) Beck, Irene (Paul) Meyer and Betty (Roland) Richer.

Doris will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her faith in God sustained her during her life and we are excited for her eternal reward.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 2, at 11 AM at Central Mennonite Church with Pastor Betty Jo Liechty officiating. Interment will precede at 10 AM in the Pettisville Cemetery.  Friends may call at the church from 4-7 PM on Friday.

Short Funeral Home in Archbold has been entrusted with the arrangements.

The family suggests that memorials be given to Gideons International or donor’s choice. www.ShortFuneralHome.com
