Douglas W. Leonard (1942 – 2017)

Douglas W. “Bill” Leonard, age 74, of Delta and Liberty Center, surrounded by his loving family; passed away Tuesday afternoon March 21, 2017 at Swanton Valley Care Center.  He was born in Liberty Center on December 2, 1942 to the late Edward Leonard and Ruth (Netcher) Leonard.  On February 16, 1968 he married Edna Handy, who survives.

Douglas was a 1960 graduate of Liberty Center High School.  For many years he worked as a Tool and Dye maker for Daimler Chrysler Jeep.

Douglas was a proud and faithful member of the Mountain of Praise Church in Delta. He was also a member of Promise Keepers, Kairos Prison ministry where we went to CCNO and Toledo Correctional Institution to teach. He enjoyed wood carving, many sports including basketball, football and baseball and was an avid Ohio State fan. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Along with his wife of 49 years, Edna; he is survived by his daughters, Alyssa Wyman and Cynthia Leonard; siblings, Patricia (Jim) Myers, Rita (Robert) Morin and Delano (Carol) Leonard; grandchildren, Jacob (Kelsi) Belcher and Robert William Lamb Jr. and a great-granddaughter Emilia Belcher.


In addition to his parents, Douglas was preceded in death by his sisters, Wilma (Steve) Zaleski, Edna Pfisterer (Fred) Roth, Virginia (Robert) Hoover and Audra Leonard; brothers, George Leonard, Duane (Betty) Leonard and Donald Leonard.

Friends will be received from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Monday, March 27, 2017 at Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 St Hwy 109 in Delta.  A funeral service honoring Douglas’ life will be held following the visitation at 12:00 PM.  Pastor Betty Fuller will be officiating.  Interment will follow at Raker Cemetery in Delta.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Hands of Grace Adult Center 104 Monroe Street, Suite 2, Delta, OH 43515 and Grace Hospice 1900 Indian Wood Circle, Suite 202A, Maumee OH, 43537 in his name.  Online condolences may be sent to the family through our website at www.barnesfuneralchapel.com
