Dr. David Richard Pelok, age 88, of Wauseon, passed away on August 17, 2024, at Fulton Manor in Wauseon. David worked as a dentist in the Wauseon Community for many years.
David was born on September 19, 1935, in Paulding, to the late George and June (Beiswenger) Pelok. He graduated from Defiance High School in 1953.
While in high school, he was an all-state football and baseball player in 1953. He also was a member of the National Honor Society and became an Eagle Scout.
David served his country as a member of the United States Navy during the Korean War. On November 28, 1958, he married the love of his life, Erna (McAninch), who preceded him in death in 2017. David and Erna were married for almost 60 years.
David attended Ohio University, where he played football and baseball, earning All-Mac honors. David obtained his Doctorate Degree from The Ohio State University Dental School.
He was a practicing dentist for 52 years in the Wauseon community. During his professional career, David served as the President of the Maumee Valley Dental Society and also as the treasurer for the Ohio Dental Society. He was the Ohio delegate to the American Dental Association for 25 years.
David was a former Past Master of the Wauseon Masonic Temple Lodge 349, a member of the Scottish Rite and Shrine, was the former president of the Wauseon Community Chest, and was a long-time youth coach and swim official.
He also served as a Fulton County Health Department Board Member for 50 years. He enjoyed golfing and his beloved Ohio State University. He was truly a lifelong Buckeye. Above all else, David loved his family.
Surviving David is his son, Dr. Scott (Geri) Pelok of Cleveland; son, Todd (Beth) Pelok of Wauseon; son, Dr. Brett (Cherie) Pelok of Sylvania; son, Chadd (Kerri) Pelok of Wauseon; and daughter, Melissa (Dwayne) Stutzman of Wauseon; grandchildren, Kayla, Mara, Alec, Kiara, Andrew, Autumn, Dawson, and Ava; 4 great-grandchildren; and brother, Philip (Sandy) Pelok of Westerville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Erna; parents; and brother, Dr. Larry Pelok.
Visitation for David will take place on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon, from 3pm to 7pm. A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 11am, at the Wauseon Congregational Church. Inurnment will be private at the Wauseon Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Wauseon Parks Department.
