(May 8th, 2015) – HICKSVILLE: Paying their distant neighbors from the Green Meadows Conference a visit, the Lady Bombers made the trek down State Route 49 to take on The Aces of Hicksville. The match-up was one of tension and suspense, with seven innings not being enough to decide the outcome.

After eight innings of play, Edon defeated the Lady Aces 6-4.

Defense was a running theme throughout the evening, as neither side was able to put a run on the scoreboard until the bottom of the fourth inning. In that frame, the girls of Hicksville drove home 2 runs to establish the first lead of the contest. The visiting girls from Williams County were quick to respond, though, as they scored a run in the top of the fifth, and 2 more in the sixth to seize control of the game 3-2.

With the pressure on the Lady Ace to score, lest they suffer the loss, they came through in the bottom of the seventh. Scoring the one run they needed in order to extend the game, Hicksville entered into a 3-3 tie with their guests from Edon, forcing an extra inning of play. However, the Lady Bombers built off of their previous momentum, racking up 3 runs in the top half of said inning. Only allowing 1 Hicksville run in the bottom of the eighth, the Edon girls assumed the victory.

Sara Hiller knocked in a couple of runs with a 2 RBI single. The freshman went 1 for 4 on the day. Also capitalizing on 1 of her 4 plate appearances was Alex Kiess. The senior standout hit for an RBI single as well. Nicole Newell made it on base twice, with a double and a walk, working the base paths to score both times.

Kaitlin Chrisman pitched all eight innings for the Bombers, picking up the win. Allowing 4 earned runs, the senior veteran gave up 13 hits and a walk. She also had 7 strikeouts in the victory.
