Edon Defeats Hicksville, Falls To Edgerton In Tri-Meet

(April 14th, 2015) – EDON: Hosting fellow State Route 49 town schools Edgerton and Hicksville, the Lady Bombers took on some fierce competition in a three way track meet on Tuesday, April 14. It was an uphill battle against the athletes of the Green Meadows Conference, but Edon held their own in a tough match-up. They took second in the meet, scoring 35 points, beating out Hicksville’s 27, but falling to Edgerton’s 105.

The distance events were the primary source of points for the Bomber girls. In the one mile run, Edon junior Kaitlyn Sonneberger finished in second place at 5:58. Her sister, Karissa Sonneberger, took third with a time of 6:13. The siblings would take down first and second place in the two mile run, with Karissa running the winning time of 13:22 and Kaitlyn finishing second at 13:46. Kaitlyn would also finish third in the 800 meter run, thanks to her time of 2:46.

Katie Ewers gave Edon a solid showing in the hurdle events. The freshman took third in the 100 meter high hurdles with a 21.1 time. In the 300 meter hurdles, she ran a 58.0, good for second place. Edon’s Paige Schaffter took fourth place in both events, running a 22.3 in the highs, and a 1:01.9 in the 300s, less than a second behind the third place finisher from Edgerton.

Schaffter also took third place in the long jump, with a leap of 11’6” In the high jump, Sarah Lemon earned Edon a fourth place finish by clearing a height of 4’6”. Autumn Joice, the lone senior on the Lady Bomber roster, earned second place in the pole vault, surpassing the bar at 6’0”. Joice would also take fourth place in the discus, throwing the disc 78’2”.

Overall, Edon did an admirable job with the numbers and experience, or lack thereof, they had coming into this meet. A few Bombers tried new events, with mixed results. It will be intriguing to see how this team develops moving forward.
