Edon Escapes Tri-Meet With North Central And Evergreen With Win

April 13, 2015Updated:December 31, 2020No Comments2 Mins Read

(March 31st, 2015) – EVERGREEN: It was by the narrowest of margins that the Lady Bombers were able to secure a victory against North Central and host school Evergreen in a tri-meet held on March 31. Edon put up a collective score of 62, just enough to edge out the Lady Eagles and their total of 54. The Vikings were close behind with 52 points in the meet.

North Central had a great showing in the jumping events. Eagle senior Brooke Shofield won the high jump with by clearing a 4’8” height. Edon’s Sarah Lemmon took second place at 4’4”. In the long jump, Evergreen took first place with a leap covering 15′. This was just enough to edge out Lady Eagle Alaina Kemarly, who jumped 14’11”. Teammate Keeley Shaw earned third place with a 13’1” jump. Lady Bomber Paige Schaffter finished in fourth with 12’9”.

Kaitlyn Sonneberger won the discus with a throw of 65’7”. Fellow Bomber Autumn Joice wasn’t far behind at 62’2”.

Sonneberger also took first in the one mile run, completing the race at 6:12.4. Her sister, Karissa Sonneberger was right behind her, coming in second place with a time of 6:16.4. Emma Zenz gave North Central third place, thanks to her time of 6:19.6. The top two finishers would swap places in the two mile run, with Karissa taking the win at 13:29.7, and Kaitlyn chasing her with a time of 14:37.4. Zenz again laid claim to third place at 14:50.6.

Katie Ewers earned first place in the 300 meter hurdles for Edon, running the race in 55.4. Kemarly earned a victory in the 100 meter dash on the Lady Eagles’ behalf, finishing with a time of 13.3.

While Edon won the meet, North Central gave them a difficult test, as did Evergreen. A lack of numbers on the part of the Lady Eagles may have impacted the outcome, as it would have been interesting to see what the girls of Pioneer might have been able to accomplish with as many competitors as the other two schools were able to field.
