EDON 12/27/2013—The Edon Bombers were unable to hold on to a third quarter lead in the semi-finals of the  Route 49 Classic Tournament, and would be ousted by the Antwerp Archers, 49-41.

The night started off with a slow scoring first quarter for both teams, as neither squad was able to break double digits. Antwerp was able to barely pull ahead, as they would hold a 9-8 lead at the end of the first quarter of play.

The Bombers came alive in the second quarter. They were sparked by a pair of threes, one by Thiel and the other by Sapp. This spark would allow the Bombers to outscore the Archers 15-8, and take a 23-17 lead by halftime.

Although the Bombers would be outscored 11-9 in the third period of action, they would cling to a 32-28 lead after three quarters.

Even though Edon was only eight minutes away from moving on to the Route 49 Classic Championship game, the Archers had other plans. Antwerp would take the lead from the Bombers in the final minutes of action stifling the Bomber offense, allowing them to only score nine points, and throttling the Edon defense and scoring 21 points in the fourth quarter, stealing the victory from the Bombers by a final score of 49-41.

Peeples was Edon’s leading scorer, banking 14 points on the night. He was followed by Sapp who contributed 11 points, Thiel tallied up nine, Brown scored five, and Bloir and Wicker both had one point.
