After a bold and courageous battle against cancer, Edward E. Hug, 77 of Edon passed away on December 2, Z019 in Sun City, AZ surrounded by his family. He was born on March 23, 1942 in Florence Township. Ed was the third child born to Eldred and Marie (Bender) Hug; graduated in 1960 from Edon High School.

On November 29, 1969 he married Cheryl Baughman, together having two children, Tanya Jo and Jason Edward. Ed worked at E&G Box Company/Hug’s Sawmill for many years and also engaged in farming before his move to Arizona in 1982. He then worked 20 years for Downey Construction in Glendale, AZ until his move back to the Edon area in 2002.

During this time, he was employed by his younger brother, Brent in the carpet business. And once again Ed moved back to Arizona on April 11, 2019 to be with his kids. Truly a devoted, “one of a kind” Dad beyond measure.

Ed loved to spend time with his family and friends. He embraced the outdoors and enjoyed riding the gator with his pet companion, Maggie. Cooking, camping and drinking beer are just a few of his well-known favorites; along with a remarkable love for music and movies.

Ed was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Blakeslee, where he faithfully served as a sacratist. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus.

Left to cherish Ed’s memory are Cheryl Hug, his daughter, Tanya (Tom) Simms all of Sun City, AZ and his son, Jason (Sara) Hug of Glendale, AZ, his grandchildren, Clay, Cameron and Carly Simms, Landon and Abby Hug. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Karol (Marlin) Livensparger, Mike (Pam) Hug, all of Edon, Judy Davis of Edgerton, Gary (Pam) Hug of Fishers, IN, Jim (Holly) Hug of Wilmington, NC, Kathy (Don) Blausey of Baraboo, WI, Betty (Walter) Greaux of Ft. Wayne, IN, Mark (Kate) Hug of Pocono, PA and Brent (Anne) Hug of Glendale, AZ and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldred and Marie Hug, youngest brother Jeff and his brother in law, Denver Davis, and niece Gina Hug.

A memorial service celebrating Ed’s life will be held on Monday, January 13, 2020 at 10:30am at St. Joseph Catholic Church by Celebrant Reverend Daniel E. Borgelt. Memorials in Ed’s honor may be given to the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Blakeslee, OH or Savior Hospice 4350 East Shea Blvd. Suite 160 Phoenix, AZ 85028.
