Eldo Burkholder (1927-2020)

Eldo G. Burkholder, 92 years, of Archbold, Ohio and formerly of West Unity passed away Monday, March 16, 2020 at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home, Archbold.

He was born September 27, 1927 in West Unity, Ohio, the son of the late Roy A. and Belva A. (Shultz) Burkholder. He was a 1945 graduate of Kunkle High School. After high school, Eldo served our country during WWII.

He was inducted in the Army on February 28, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio and was given orders on November 2, 1946 to deploy in the Occupation Army to Japan.

He served our country faithfully and returned to the United States on March 22, 1947 and was honorably discharged on April 7, 1947.


Eldo married Dorothy A. Good on April 22, 1950 in Pioneer, Ohio. He was a life-long dairy farmer, always tending to his farm and caring for his family. Eldo was an active member of the Kunkle United Brethren Church, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and Church Trustee.

He was also a member of the Williams County Dairy Association, Past-President of the Williams County Farm Bureau and involved in Gideon’s International.

When he was not working on the farm, Eldo enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time outdoors. He cherished his time wintering in Florida with his wife, Dorothy for 20 years.


Surviving is his wife, Dorothy of Archbold, Ohio; three children, Dennis (Rebekah) Burkholder of Ruskin, Florida, Deanna “Sue” (Neil) Kohl of Edon, Ohio, and Denise “Lynn” (Robert) Walz of West Unity, Ohio; 11 Grandchildren, Nathan (Amie) Burkholder, Todd (Kelli) Burkholder, Emily Burkholder, Rachel (Samuel) Harris, Monica (Dan) Monachino, Elizabeth Ann (Paul) Stockinger, Carol (Benny) Person, Connie (David) Slagle, Derek (Wendy) Walz, Doug (Kari) Walz, and Nicole (Jeremy) Bowers; sister, Rachel Huffman of Pioneer, Ohio.

Private family funeral services will be held for Eldo G. Burkholder. Interment will take place in Shiffler Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 202 North Liberty Street, West Unity.

The family asks those remembering Eldo to make memorial contributions to Kunkle United Brethren Church or Gideon’s International.
