Eric McKinney (1964 – 2024)

(West Unity Resident; Active In Special Olympics)

Eric Boyd McKinney, 60, of West Unity, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.

Eric was born on August 27, 1964, in Montpelier, Ohio, son of the late William R. and Dorothy J. (Allison) McKinney III.

He graduated from Sunnyside County School in 1986. Eric actively participated in the Special Olympics, winning many gold medals. He worked at Quadco, in the public sector, and Northwest Products in Archbold.


While working for Quadco, he received the Don Spiese Award in 1989 and 2009. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of West Unity, where he participated in Master’s Mimes for 14 years.

Eric loved music, especially playing the drums. He was an avid sports fan and an enthusiastic fan of the Hilltop Cadets. Eric enjoyed socializing with family and friends throughout the community.

He is survived by his two brothers, William R. McKinney IV of West Unity, Ohio and Kevin E. McKinney of West Unity, Ohio; 12 nieces and nephews, Emily (Ergys) Drangu, Sarah McKinney, Lillian (Kenneth) Chappuies, William R. McKinney V, Madeline McKinney, Christian McKinney, Oliva McKinney, Beckett McKinney, Isaac McKinney, Allison McKinney, Faith McKinney, and Benjamin McKinney; five great nieces and nephews; many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was proceeded in death by his parents and grandparents.


Visitation for Eric will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 202 N. Liberty Street, West Unity. Funeral services will immediately begin at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Ric Beals officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Grove Cemetery, West Unity.

The family request memorials be directed to the McKinney Family, c/o/ Bill McKinney. Condolences may be sent to the family or memories may be shared at www.oberlinturnbull.
