Florence M. Augustine, age 98 years, of Archbold, passed away late Wednesday, October 9, 2019, at Fairlawn Haven in Archbold. She was born July 29, 1921, near Archbold, the daughter of Alfred and Aleta (Fox) Spiess.
She attended Archbold High School and married Virgil Augustine on December 1, 1940 and he preceded her in death on February 18, 1998. She lived in the Pettisville area many years, and worked at the Wauseon Wire Factory during WW II and at the Pettisville Local Schools in the cafeteria for 30 years before retiring. She was one of the oldest members of St. John’s Christian Church in Archbold.
She is survived by two children, Rosemary Alexander Thiel of Blakeslee, and David (Mary) Augustine of Archbold; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father George Cary; her husband, Virgil; two sons-in-law, Orville “Lanny” Alexander and Kent A. Thiel; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Denver (Marjorie & Janice) Spiess and Arthur (Ruthalee) Spiess.
Friends may call at the Fairlawn Chapel from 12 – 2 PM on Monday with services to follow at 2 PM in the Fairlawn Chapel. Interment will follow in the Pettisville Cemetery. Short Funeral Home in Archbold has been entrusted with the arrangements. The family suggests that memorials be given to Sauder Village.
