Frances I. “Fran” Schlachter, age 87, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away at 9:48 P.M. on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, in her home, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Schlachter was a 1954 graduate of Farmer High School and throughout the years had been employed by Starks Building Center, where she met her husband, “Jack,” The Aro Corporation, Gorny-Winzeler Printing, and Century Press Printing and retired from Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers, where she worked in the insurance and billing department.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bryan where she was active with the bell choir and Mid-Week Manna committee and was a co-organizer of the Trinity Lutheran Tripsters.

She enjoyed knitting, spending time with her family and especially attending events of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Frances I. Schlachter was born on July 20, 1936, in Farmer Township, Defiance County, Ohio, the daughter of Lelan and Vanda L. (Hinsch) Appel.

She married Arthur L. “Jack” Schlachter on March 5, 1955, in Bryan and he preceded her in death on February 23, 1998.


Survivors include one son, Tod (Lynn) Schlachter, of Bryan; two daughters, Jacqueline (Carpio) Flores, of Bryan, and Kathleen Cooney, of Camden, Michigan; nine grandchildren, Austin Huffman, Kristi (Josh) Kimpel, Dustin (Melissa) Schlachter, Melissa (Josh) Miles, Nicole (Jeff) Turner, Shawn (Roxanne) Cooney, Troy (Gin) Cooney, Ladd (Lindsay) Cooney, Lance (Audra) Cooney and Amalia, Jesus, Aleesia and Aria Flores; seventeen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Norma (Robert) Andres, of Bryan, and Karen (Nelson) Bell, of Toledo, Ohio; and her beloved dog, Willow.

She was also preceded in death by one brother and sister-in-law, Deloy and Mary Appel; one sister and brother-in-law, Elowene and Frank Finzer; a son-in-law, John Cooney; a nephew, Dave Finzer; and her longtime companion, Richard “Dick” Lutterbein.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023, from 2:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Services will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bryan with Deacon Jean Wise officiating, where the family will receive visitors for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow in Farmer Cemetery, Farmer, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Trinity Lutheran Church, CHP Home Care and Hospice, or Farmer Cemetery Association.
