The Fulton County Humane Society held its first ever Pawtoberfest this past weekend. The event was held on Saturday, October 26th and ran from Noon to 6:00 p.m.
The event raised funds for the society through freewill donations that help to benefit animals that temporarily call the shelter home.
The event featured live music, BBQ, Fall Crafts, Face Painting, T-Shirts, Raffles, a Dog Costume Contest, Games, Corn Hole Tournament, and more. Food was provided by Special Grounds Coffee, Lange’s Bakery, Slush C’s, and Madeline’s Smokehouse. Several other vendors were also present during the event.
Board member Ali Longmore explained that it is the Humane Societies hope to make this event an annual event and continue on with this new tradition. She also explained how the event got its start.
Ali and Frank from the Humane Society had both had both met in Tennessee. There they were involved in different municipal festivals and had helped in some capacity with many of them.
The idea of an event here was put forward and the ok was given. After that, the Pawtoberfest was born.
Ali further explained that the event was put on in kind of a short notice, but the attention it received from the public was even higher than what was expected for its first time. Not only was the parking lot filled, but cars were parked on the sides of the road and in the church parking lot on the other side.
“I think its really exciting to see the community come out and support use and, in some cases, discover us. It’s just heartening to see the amount of support we have received.”
“We run strictly on donations and adoptions. We don’t receive huge money from anywhere else,” said Ali Longmore.
During the day, some tours were also given to those who wanted to check out the building and animals that call it home.
This led to some animals finding their fur-ever home during the event, which makes everything even more special.
