Fulton County Senior Center Announces Fun September Activities

As summer winds down it’s the perfect time to check out the various activities held at one of the area Fulton County Senior Center sites in Wauseon, Delta, Swanton, Archbold, or Fayette.

Stacy “Duke” Todd, one of the lead singers of the Van-Dells music group make an exclusive appearance on Friday, September 4 at 1:00 PM at the Wauseon site. The Van-Dells, a 50s and 60s rock n’ roll music group will perform at the Fulton County Fair On Saturday, September 5. The Van-Dells provide comedy and fun along with their music. During the show, Todd acts as a no-nonsense tough guy and is the brunt of most on-stage jokes. He likes to see the show run smoothly and “encourages” his two onstage cohorts to make sure that happens. Todd go his nickname from his performances of the song, “The Duke of Earl.” Todd is an original 41-year member, who began with the Van-Dells in 1974.

On Thursday, September 17, Cheryl Witt, Information & Referral Specialist, will take appointments from 10 to noon at the Swanton Library. Get help understanding insurance bills, Medicare, completing applications, and more. On Thursday, September 25, Witt will be at the Evergreen Library in Metamora from 10 to noon. Thursday, September 24 meet with Witt in the Wyse Commons Library on the Fairlawn campus, Archbold, from 10 to noon. Witt’s services are offered at no cost to seniors in partnership with Wyse Commons and the local libraries. Make an appointment in advance for any of these times at 419-337-9299.

Tuesday, October 6 is the seventh annual Road to Wellness Health Care Conference for adults and caregivers in and around Fulton County. The theme for the 2015 event is “Which Direction Am I Going?” and takes place from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM at St. Caspar’s Parish Life Center in Wauseon. Participants can expect information about living wills, medical power of attorney, assisted independent living, veterans’ services, private duty nursing, long-term health care, health care screenings, fraud and scam information, freebies and more. Complete a registration form (available at local sites) and receive a free lunch at the Road to Wellness event.


Artist Nora Sallows returns in October to provide acrylic painting classes at the Wauseon site on Tuesday October 13 and 27, and November 3 and 10. This series of four classes will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. Sallows provides the paint, canvases, easels, brushes and expertise. The series costs $75 for all four classes payable at the first class. Register by October 3 by calling 419-337-9229.

Finally, this year’s free Medicare Check-Up Day takes place on Tuesday, October 20 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Wauseon site. Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP) representatives will provide important information regarding Medicare Part D (prescription drug plans) and Medicare changes for 2016 at the morning session. Lunch reservations must be made by 4:00 PM October 16 for those planning to have lunch at the senior center. The suggested donation for lunch is $2.00 for Fulton County residents 60 and over and $3.50 for out-of-county residents. The afternoon session will give Fulton County seniors the opportunity to receive personalized drug plan comparisons on a first-come, first-served basis. Those wanting comparisons should bring their Medicare card and current list of medications and dosages. Contact Witt at 419-337-9299.
