Game Summaries For Saturday, March 26

VARSITY SOFTBALL

Hilltop 7, Archbishop McNicholas 6

In a pitcher’s dual between Hilltop’s Bailey Funkhouser and McNicholas’ Accordine, the Cadets outlasted their opponent to win their first game of the season.  The score was deadlocked 6-6 going into the seventh inning and Hilltop scored the go-ahead run.  Becca Miller led the Cadets with three hits while Ariana Brown and Danny Ackley connected for two hit apiece. The RBI for Hilltop went to Aubrey Wyse, Funkhouser, Karissa Crisenbery and Veronica Roth. Funkhouser allowed eight hits and one base on balls while striking out six.

 

Hilltop 14, New Richmond 4

The Cadets exploded for nine runs over the last two innings as they won the five inning contest.  Allie Schmitt and Becca Miller the way with three RBI apiece. Bailey Funkhouser and Veronica Roth were a perfect three for three from the batter’s box. Aubrey Wyse allowed 10 hits for the complete game win. The win gave the Cadets the championship in the Green Kayak Opening Day Tournament at New Richmond High School. The Lady Cadets are now 2-0.

 

Defiance 10, Wauseon 1

The Indians held tough through six innings but the Bulldogs hit the leather off the ball in the seventh connecting for eight runs to put the game away. Erin Douglass’ RBI scored Wauseon’s run in the first inning. No one scored from the second through the sixth innings in the tightly contested game. Alisa Shelt got the start on the mound for the Tribe and allowed 12 hits while striking out five over 6.1 innings. Ally Tefft relieved Shelt for the final two outs.


 

VARSITY BASEBALL

Edgerton 11, Pandora Gilboa 1

In a twin bill the Edgerton Bulldogs defeated Pandora-Gilboa 11. Alex Michael was the winning pitcher in game one with five innings pitched allowing one run, on two hits, and striking out eight for the complete game victory.  Leading hitters for the Bulldogs included Mitchell Cercone with a double and two singles. Drew Hug with a triple and two singles. While Jake Siebenaler added one double and one single.

 

Edgerton 10, Pandora Gilboa 5


In the second contest,  Logan Sack took the complete game win for Edgerton allowing four runs on six hits with three strikeouts. Mitchell Cercone belted three singles. Drew Hug, Jake Siebenaler and Landon Thiel had two singles each.

 

Archbold 1, Ottawa Glandorf 0

Ian Radabaugh’s sacrifice fly in the fifth inning would prove to be the game winner as the Streaks won their opener over the Titans. Toby Walker went three for three at the plate and Lathon Babcock finished two for three including a double for Archbold. Babcock was stellar from the mound as he gave up only three hits over the seven inning shutout. There were no errors by either team and there was only one walk during the contest.

 

Defiance 5, Wauseon 1

Defiance broke out to a 3-0 second inning lead then added two in the fifth to ruin Wauseon’s opening day. The Indians scored their run in the fourth with an RBI by Brooks Gype. Brady Kinnersley pitched four innings for Wauseon giving up seven hits and five runs. Carter Bzovi came in in relief allowing one hit over the last three innings. Jac Flory connected on Wauseon’s only hit of the contest.
