Gerald Snyder (1930 – 2018)

Gerald H. Snyder, age 87, of Delta, surrounded by his family; passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, March 13, 2018 at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice in Defiance.  He was born on March 21, 1930 to the late George F. Snyder and Clara (Mills) Snyder.  Gerald was a graduate of Fulton Centralized Schools.  After graduating he served in the U.S Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.  Upon returning to home he married Florence A. Pelton on December 4, 1954.

From this marriage they were blessed with five children; Richard “Dick” (Kathy) Snyder, Chaplain Lt. Col., Gerald “Gary” (Beth) Snyder, Susan “Sue” (Ted) Blohm, Patricia “Pattie” (Paul) Stanley and the late Steven M. Snyder.  Gerald was a lifelong farmer, including dairy from 1955-1972.  He also transported milk for Pet Milk and was a farmer/dealer for DeKalb Seed.  Gerald was a member of the Delta American Legion Post #373, Delta United Methodist Church where he served as a Trustee, Administrative Board and Pastor Parish Relations Committee; past vice president of the Fulton County Farm Bureau, Ohio Farmer’s Union, Dairy Service Unit, Soil and Water Supervisor and a volunteer with the Delta Outreach.  He was selected to the Fulton County Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2000 and was an honorary member of the Delta FFA.

Along with his children and wife of 63 years, Florence; he is survived by his siblings, Helen Desgranges, Paul Snyder and Betty Carter; grandchildren, Cheryl Snyder, Steven Snyder, Jill Rohrs, Robin Timpe, Kay Timpe, Kalani Snyder, Kalei Snyder, Kamaile Snyder, Jessica Blohm, Joshua Blohm, Matthew Blohm and Bradley Stanley; 9 great grandchildren with two on the way; 41 nieces and nephews and special exchange student daughter, Ulli (Johnny) Andersson.

In addition to his parents and son, Steven; he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Snyder, Bob Snyder and infant, Franklin Snyder; sisters, Anna Mary Stoll, Marguerite Lueke, Dorothy Hill and Ruth Griffin.


Friends will be received from 2:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday, March 16, 2018 at Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 St. Hwy. 109 in Delta.  A memorial service for Gerald will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday March 17, 2018 at the Delta United Methodist Church, 101 Northwood Dr., Delta, Ohio 43515.  Pastor Teresa Wenrick will be officiating.

Private interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Delta.  In lieu of flowers, those wishing a show of sympathy are asked to consider contributions to the Delta Outreach, 104 Monroe St, Suite1, Delta, Ohio 43515 or the Delta United Methodist Church in his memory.  Online condolences may be sent to the family through our website at www.barnesfuneralchapel.com.
