WAUSEON (December 5, 2023) – After just a 2/12 shooting performance in the first quarter, the Indians went 16/34 in the second and third quarters combined to pull away from Edgerton for a 50-35 win.

An inside bucket from Sophia Rupp early on started things off for Wauseon but they would get just one more bucket the remainder of the quarter with the Bulldogs going on a 6-0 run, aided by a basket from Ava Swank and a three-pointer by Casey Everetts, for an 8-4 lead.

The Indians responded with six straight points to start the second frame as Aizlynn Coronado hit a driving layup, Aunali Reyes had a rebound basket, and Mackenzie Stasa scored off an Edgerton turnover to give Wauseon a 10-8 advantage.

The lead would go back and forth before Edgerton sophomore Alivia Farnham buried a triple from the top of the key to put Edgerton on top at 17-14.

Wauseon would then close the half on an 8-1 thanks to five straight points by Johanna Tester and Rupp hitting a triple from the right wing in the waning seconds of the half to give Wauseon a 22-18 lead at halftime.

A bucket by Farnham started the third quarter for Edgerton but that was followed by a 7-0 Indian run ending with a field goal inside by Reyes after a Bulldog timeout to make it 29-20.

Wauseon continued to increase their lead with an 11-1 scoring run led by back-to-back triples by Rupp and then a two-point field goal by Rupp as the lead ballooned to 40-23.

Farnham stopped the bleeding for Edgeton with a hoop, but Rupp would end the quarter with a trey just before the horn, giving her 14 points in the quarter, as Wauseon had their largest lead of the night at 43-25.

Farnham and Coronado exchanged triples to open the fourth quarter as both teams had a cold shooting fourth quarter with Edgerton trimming the lead to 48-35 with 3:19 to go before Rupp scored her final points of the night to close out the Wauseon win.

Wauseon’s defense harassed the Bulldogs into 25 turnovers which allowed Wauseon to put up 22 more shots from the field then Edgerton.

Rupp ended the night with 25 and Tester totaled 11 for Wauseon, who is now 2-1 on the season.

Farnham paced Edgerton (2-2) with 15 and Swank tallied nine markers.
